INTRODUCTION

For this project I am required to create a piece of work that is fit for broadcast. This time round it is a small group project, which means we are advised to work in groups of 2 or 3 people. I have teamed up with Matt. We have a choice as to what we can do for this project. We have 3 options, we can either work as a junior on a BA film project, we could contribute work towards Rave Live, or we could find an external client and create a piece of work for them.

Me and Matt discussed what one out of the three options most appealed to us and we decided the external client project took our interest. Especially as Matt already had a client lined up. So we are set!

Our client is just starting up a new practice/ recording studio, so the idea is that we are going to create a piece of animation that will promote this. We collaborated with the client to come up with a creative yet basic idea that would best promote his studio. The basic idea is that there is a Teenager/ Young man playing guitar really badly, he then changes the setting on his amp to 'Crunch' mode, he does this by flicking the switch from 'off' to 'Crunch'. He then starts playing the guitar again however now he is playing the guitar amazingly. There is then going to be some kind of cool effect such as bright colours and stars flying at the screen, followed by the logo of the studio going smack on the screen with the appropriate sound effect. The reason the amp is going to have a 'Crunch' mode is because the studio is called 'Crunch'. Another part of the idea is that when the character starts off playing the guitar he is going to be playing a basic guitar and will be looking very plain and simple, then when he switches to 'Crunch' mode his guitar is going to change to a much 'cooler' guitar and his hair is going to get longer giving him more of a rock and roll look. The animation will only last between 10 to 30 seconds which I believe is a realistic time considering there is only two of us working on this project.

I think it is very important to take into consideration how much their is to do and how many people in the group there are. So I think the idea we have is very wise as it is ambitious and achievable. We will need to model an amp, a basic guitar, a cool guitar and the character. We will then need to rig and animate the character, and then create a exciting colourful effect for the finale. As myself and Matt are both novices at rigging we decided that it would be unrealistic to say that we will be able to rig the face as well, creating blend shapes etc. So Matt has the idea that we just texture the face. The inspiration for this idea came from Xbox avatars. Below is some pictures of some Xbox avatars.

Below are two images of Xbox avatars plying guitar. Hopefully we will be able to achieve a piece of work similar to this standard.

Another idea inspired from these images is that the guitars do not have any strings. This shows that if our guitar models do not have any strings they will still look effective. Whilst saving us the time of finding a way of creating realistic strings that attach to the 3D guitar models in the same way that real strings on a guitar are attached, it will also give our work a stylistic touch which is something that will help to make our piece more successful and stand out. The idea that we have for the background is very simple. We are going to have a basic wooden floor with just a black wall. This will make sure that all of the audiences concentration goes towards the character. However the colour of the wall may change depending on how it looks once created. Now its time to get started!
